Ride a camel through the Sinai Desert like a real-life Bedouin on this full-day adventure from Sharm el Sheikh. With an expert guide, drive deep into the desert and meet the Bedouins and camels that will transport you through the stark landscapes. Climb aboard and absorb the stunning views and deafening silence of the desert as you ride. Enjoy a Bedouin lunch cooked on an open fire at Mount Matamir; see the ancient tombs of Nawamis; and then share tea with locals at a Bedouin settlement before you return.
Leave your Sharm el Sheikh hotel and take the 2.5-hour journey deep into the Sinai desert in an air-conditioned minivan, with photo stops on route. Notice along the way how the granite mountains merge into open desert — the setting for your adventure. On arrival, meet the Bedouins and camels used for your trek. Then, climb aboard a camel and set off. Once you’re used to its rolling gait, relax and absorb the desert scenery: the vast expanses and silence are hypnotizing. After a while, arrive at Mount Matamir and set up a small camp. Then, either explore the area or watch the Bedouins prepare lunch on an open fire. Perhaps learn how to bake Bedouin bread, and tuck into your handiwork with the rest of lunch. Bedouin meals usually feature hummus, salad, pickles and bread or even stew, so expect a delicious meal. After lunch, walk to the top of Mount Matamir to enjoy the stunning views as your guide points out local wadis and other points of interest. On return to camp, refuel with some Bedouin tea before continuing your camel trek. Your second stop is Nawamis, a plateau studded with Bronze Age tombs. Walk around these mysterious, igloo-like structures as your guide explains how they all face west and why. Ride on from here to a traditional Bedouin settlement, and share some refreshing tea with the local women and children. Finally, trek back to where you first met your camel convoy. Then, return to Sharm el Sheikh where your tour concludes with a hotel drop-off.
